Bolt, Movie Review

We loved this movie. My sons don’t like ’singing’ in their movies, and that was the only complaint I heard from them. This movie really only had one song in it, though. It is a nice Disney movie that the whole family will enjoy. We laughed a lot. The dog is so funny when he thinks he has super powers. And I also have to say, Yay! No animals die in this movie! Remember those old Disney movies where they always had to kill off someone and make the kids cry? I didn’t like Bambi just because of that, or Old Yeller, Fox and Hound & even the Lion King! I’m so glad they stopped doing that! Ok, I’m done with my rant now. Enjoy the movie!

OMG! Watchmen, Not for kids!

I went to see the Watchmen, and was traumatized for a few weeks afterward. This movie is NOT for kids. I was at Toys R Us and they actually have Watchmen toys in the super hero isle. I just hope that parents don’t see this and think it is a kids movie. It is definatley not! This is a review from a ‘Disney Girl’ here, I don’t like bloody, gory movies. The movie the Watchman had so much blood and gore it was disturbing. There was also rape, child murder, killer German Shephards who die violently, blood, blood and more blood, limbs being cut off. You name it and it had it. I wanted to leave after the first fifteen minutes, but didn’t want to desert my husband. Now I wish I would have left. It was just awful. Rated R for good reason. The critics on Yahoo actually gave this movie a B-. Has the world gone mad?

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian Review

The kids and I really enjoyed Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. We had a discussion afterward, trying to decide which was better, Night at the Museum 1 or 2. We all agreed that we liked the sequel a little better! This is saying a lot, because we LOVED the first one.

Hotel for Dogs, Movie Review

We went to see Hotel for dogs and really enjoyed it. If your child is a dog lover, it is a must see! This is an excellent family movie. It’s refreshing to see a movie where the siblings get along and look out for each other (not like Zathura where the brothers contently fight). The brother and sister (Jake T. Austin & Emma Roberts) are orphans, living with obnoxious foster parents (Kevin Dillon & Lisa Kudrow). They aren’t totally alone in the world, they have a caring social worker who looks out for them (played by Don Cheadle). The brother and sister are very compassionate and begin taking care of a growing collection of stray dogs. They meet three other kids (Johnny Simmons, Kyla Pratt & Troy Gentile) who love dogs and form a “stray dog rescue squad”.

The dogs in this movie are well trained in its pretty neat to see all the different things that they can do. The boy is a young inventor. He makes several interesting gadgets to keep the dogs occupied. Here is something else to like about Hotel for Dogs; none of the dogs die. My kids get so sad at movies where the animals get hurt and/or killed. There are a few moments where you worry about the dogs, and a couple tear jerking moments, but this is a great movie with a happy ending. Watching this movie might make a child more thankful and appreciate his family and pets even more.

They Live, Movie by John Carpenter

We recently watched the movie “They Live” (1988, by John Carpenter). I’ve placed it in the not for kids catagory. It was entertainng and funny, with some good action. The movie stars Roddy Piper, Keith David and Meg Foster. Here are a few things you should know if you are going to let your kids watch it. And as a parent, I would say it isn’t for kids. Read on if you want to know why…

Spoiler alert!

I will be giving away some of the movie, including the ending, but it is necessary to let you know what might upset the kids…. First, they swear in the movie, including the F-word. There is blood and voilence. About the end of the movie; the two main stars die and right after that happens (just before the credits) you will see the breasts of a woman while she is having sex. …But hey, other than that stuff, the movie is ok.

Read Twilight 6 Midnight Sun

Stephanie Meyer has created a page on her website discussing the illegal distribution of her sixth book in the Twilight series. She also posted the first 264 pages of the book on her website for all to read. Most fans know that someone got their hands on her ‘work in progress’ manuscript of Midnight Sun and posted it on the internet. She was horribly distressed and feels she can’t complete the book now. I really hope that she changes her mind. What a loss.

Quantum of Solace A Parent’s Review

My husband and I went to see the movie and both of us enjoyed it. We liked Casino Royal much better, though. They filmed this movie differently and the action scenes were a little difficult to follow with the jumpy camera thing they were doing. If you are taking kids to see it, I’d rate the movie for ages 15 and up. There were some sexual content and a lot of intense action & blood. I included the trailer below and a link to a more detailed review here: Quantum of Solace - Movie Mom’s Review

Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, and some sexual content. Brief strong language, Sexual references and non-explicit situation, some non-sexual nudity, Drinking Very intense action violence, guns, explosions, fighting, characters injured and killed.

Movie Release Date: November 14, 2008
