Highest Paved Road in North America: Mt. Evans
The Mount Evans Scenic Byway climbs more than 7,000 feet in just 28 miles, reaching an altitude of 14,264 feet. From Idaho Springs very nearly to the summit of Mount Evans, you can travel the Mount Evans Byway (Colorado State Highway 5). It can be 90 degrees in Denver and 40 degrees at the top of Mount Evans.
