image_bosco_280Bosco, a 3-year-old Dutch shepherd, has a will to live. He has been recovering at Ohio State University Veterinary Hospital in Columbus. On Aug. 22 he was shot twice in the line of duty along with officer Officer Mike Schiele (his human partner) who was treated and released for a wound to his leg.  Bosco was thought to be paralyzed but is now showing  some movement in his front legs. He is working to stand on his back legs and has been making strides daily. Zanesville Police Department has received many donations to help with the pups recovery.

boscoOfficer Mike Schiele received a bullet wound to the left side while Bosco was hit in the chest and in the neck. Schiele showed little concern for himself . He was distressed about Bosco as he screamed for help. The 911 tapes released have him yelling, “I’m down, I’m down!  They shot my dog. Call a squad! They shot my dog.”

The shooter, Dominick Conley, faces He faces 105 years in prison. He was arrested by Canton police and the FBI on Monday and is in the Zanesville City Jail, facing 11 felony counts.

Ohio K-9 Attempts Rehabilitation after Shooting Friday, September 4, 2009

Bosco deserves support, respect, thanks  “Bosco was purchased after Cpl. David Armstrong was killed Feb. 2, 2007, in Iraq. David’s family knew how important the K-9 units were in Iraq to the soldiers and how David dreamed of being a K-9 officer at a police department when he returned. Through the Armstrongs’ efforts, David’s dream was realized when Bosco was purchased from community donations.”
